His Excellency, The Governor and Lady Bathurst visited Loreto this week. They joined us to commemorate Remembrance Day and were joined by Karen Ramagge – Speaker of the Gibraltar Parliament – and Mrs Joan Ramage, who taught at Loreto.
In the Chapel, our guests enjoyed a moving service led by children from Years 1 and 2. The altar was beautifully decorated with hand made poppies and the children had prepared prayers, a poem and a song. Sean from the Gibraltar Regiment, played the Last Post bringing the service to an emotional end. H.E. thanked the children for their hard work and beautiful poppies.
Our visitors then toured the school, dropping in on Year 5A in Computing, 5N in Science, Year 3 classes for poems – and question time! Our pupils put some very interesting questions to H.E. and Lady Bathurst …
We popped into Nursery 2 for a couple of Nursery Rhymes – Hickory Dickory Dock and Humpty Dumpty.
Returning to the Parlour, we heard from Year 4 pupils on the Upper Primary Christmas initiative ‘The Gift of Giving’. Children are bringing into school gifts to be wrapped and sent (via the Gibraltar Youth Service) to children who may otherwise not receive anything at Christmas.
H.E. and Lady Bathurst were gracious in their thanks for the visit and Karen and Joan Ramagge were both delighted. I was very proud of our Head Boy, Johnnie Bassadone; Head Girl, Arianne Grech; Deputy Head Boy, Tyler Azzopardi; and Deputy Head Girl, Ellie Risso; who greeted our visitors, accompanied them on the tour and spoke eloquently about Loreto Traditions.
