On Friday 5th February, sixty year six and seven children departed on a PGL Ski-trip to Austria.  Meeting in the early morning, it was soon time to board the coaches and head off to Malaga airport.  With bags checked-in we made our way to the gate and boarded the Air Berlin flight to Munich.  Landing in Germany, we collected our bags and again departed on a coach to our final destination in Salbaach.  As the journey time elapsed and the altitude increased so indeed did the depth of now and the decrease in temperature registered minus six.

Arriving at our hotel later that evening, we unpacked and had our first taste of the hotel cuisine, which was extremely nice, using fresh ingredients for a well balance diet.  The hotel owner, Monica was extremely accommodating and met our every need, from dietary requests to allergies her staff really made us all feel at home.  The food was consistently good throughout the trip ensuring that the calories burnt on the slopes were suitably replaced. With many days of skiing ahead, day one started after breakfast with the boot and ski fit.  For some, this was their first experience of putting on a ski boot and experience the ‘ski boot waddle’.  After meeting our instructors the pupils were placed into their groups and then set off for the slopes.  With the advanced groups skiing to our meet point in Salbaach the beginners and intermediate groups caught the ski bus for a 10 minute journey.  The instructors soon started their lessons, evaluating the ability of the pupils to ensure they were in the correct ski group.  Throughout the week the instructors continued to move pupils between groups ensuring they had the best instruction possible encouraging all to progress. The evening après ski entertainment was seemingly organised by our PGL Rep Karen, where nothing was too much trouble to organise, including our outside disco with hot drinks. The staff have had some lovely words of thanks upon our arrival back in Gibraltar and the staff thank you for your kind words.

A massive thank you to all the teachers for an incredible week of skiing. The experience has been invaluable for the children. They have thoroughly enjoyed this week –  they have laughed, bonded, been challenged and most of all grown up all while developing their skiing techniques.   They say a picture paints 1000 words…..well the smiles on the children’s faces says it all! Memories made for a lifetime!!  Thank you all.

There have been many happy memories of the trip, far too many to mention now.  In the not to distant future, the aim is to have a DVD available for parents to purchase, sharing videos and photographs with you all.
