In the younger classes, teachers organise a flexible programme of skills reinforcement. Pupils take home reading and library books and are encouraged to read with their parents. This working partnership between home and school is also used to help pupils with spelling and basic number skills. Pupils may occasionally be asked to complete unfinished work from class.
Reading Record – invaluable to record progress in reading and a useful tool to liaise between home and school.
We encourage ‘talking homework’, discussion of topics relevant to school, in the family environment.
Years 4, 5, 6
The use of a Homework Diary enables pupils to keep a clear record of their homework allowing parents and teachers to monitor the work. The homework set will vary between classes but may include English, Maths, study and research tasks. We feel that the regular setting of homework assignments is important to encourage the self-discipline and organizational skills which will be helpful in their subsequent academic careers.
