Year 5 visited Seville on Thursday 23rd March. The trip organised as part of their curriculum studies was a huge success with children visiting many local attractions.
As part of the Geography Topic “Contrasting Localities: Gibraltar and Seville”, the Year 5 pupils went on a field trip to Seville to visit some of the most famous buildings in the city.
The pupils first visited the Cathedral, where they learnt about the outside construction and history of the weather vain. It was then off inside where the pupils saw the wonderful courtyard, the magnificent stained glass windows, Columbus’s tomb and the stunning Altar Mayor which shows different moments in Christ’s life. It was off to climb all 34 ramps up to the top of La Giralda where we looked out at the amazing views of the city from the bell tower. A question for the children to answer was “How many bells are there?” Off the children went to count the bells. From here we made our way to a small park where we rested and had lunch. After lunch we made our way to La Plaza de Espana and spent some time walking past all the alcoves and some time to purchase some souvenirs. We then entered El Alcazar, the Royal Palace. We wandered through the beautiful gardens taking in the statue of Mercury in the large pool. We saw the underground bath with the incredible vaulted ceiling and visited El Salon de los Embajadores with its domed ceiling and spectacular patio.
